Responsibilities of Citizenship


” For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  (Matt 6:21 ESV)

Where is your treasure?  If we delight ourselves in the Lord, do we still want the same treasures the world values?  Do we not, instead, draw toward the riches found only in the kingdom of heaven?

“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Ps 37:4 ESV)

If the Lord is our delight, would we not find deep satisfaction and, yes, even joy in doing the work He has set before us as Christians? Would we not turn away from the treasures of the world so completely that if Our Father in Heaven put worldly treasures in our hands, they would sift through our fingers like so much sand?

There is no formula, God sees the truth that lies deep within our hearts. So if you’re just going through the motions, there your heart is also. But if your heart is full and overflowing with the greatest treasure, the love of Jesus, could the treasures of this world hold any sway?

Now, as a citizen of The United States of America you have to ask, what sway does the lure of money and power have over the people we elect to represent us in Washington?  These men are pulled many directions by the other insiders, lobbyists and the pet cause de jour.  Many who hold these offices end up with connections to great wealth and opportunity that ordinary citizens don’t have access to.  The very people who sent them to Washington, entrusted with the future of this nation, are now relegated to We The little People.

There is no greater responsibility that We The People have as citizens than to exercise our right to vote with great care.  Men who are of this world don’t have the same moral compass that a man who delights in the Lord. If the lure of riches and power hold no value, We The People can trust them to exercise the power he holds with great care.

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Matt 6:24 ESV)

If an elected official serves God, he, like our Founding Fathers, will consider what’s best for our nation, not just what will get them re-elected.

Citizens Come First!


California farmers are watching their crops wither and die because of the Delta Smelt,  a fish that was added to the endangered species list.  Because of this otherwise innocuous act, the pumps were turned off that fed all of the irrigation waters for the San Joaquin Valley and the canals have dried up.  Now unemployment in this area is up and it’s a man-made drought.  Since when do fish come before the tax-paying citizens of the United States?

We The People better sit up and take note.  The Federal Government has sided with a fish ahead of the general welfare of the taxpayers in that area.  How long will it be before you find yourself in the same position?  How long will it be before Washington takes over the failing agriculture communities because they are too big to fail?  So far, 80,000 jobs have been lost according to Fox News.  Beyond the jobs, those salaries are no longer paying bills, buying groceries and clothes.  When we’re in economic trouble already, it doesn’t make sense to kick them while they’re down.  The excuse is an endangered fish, but it is no longer impossible to believe that another industry could be nationalized for the good of We The People.

Our country was founded on the ideal that leaders only lead with the consent of We The People.  They are to act in our best interest, not their own.  When we see the personal interests of politicians, because they have worked so hard to earn the title “Senator”, come before the interests of the American people it is time to remind Washington who they work for.  The unemployed citizens of Mendota, who are apparently less important than a fish, need to hear from the rest of We The People that they are not alone.  Call, Fax, E-mail, write, sky-write, or tweet your representatives in Washington.  Don’t let the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels get by with deliberately hurting tax paying citizens’ futures.  This is a nation by the people, for the people and of the people.  It is irresponsible to hurt so many with an avoidable drought.

Don’t be fooled and think you will not be next.  Speak up or loose it forever.

Joint Economic Committee Warns Beware of the Budget


We the people need to watch more closely what our representatives are doing to us.  The April 3, 2009 Press Release # 111-5 from the Congressional Joint Economic Committee warns that the projections used to calculate the budget deficits for the Administration’s proposal are flawed.

“The Administration’s unduly optimistic economic assumptions are a major problem. These optimistic assumptions are a key foundation of the President’s budget proposals, and lead to artificially low deficit and debt projections. No wonder The Economist called the assumptions in the Administration’s budget “deeply flawed” in an article entitled, “Wishful, and dangerous, thinking.” Their effect is to make the Administration’s expansive new spending proposals look less threatening than they actually are.”

“The Democrats’ budget will add yet more deficit spending and debt to the huge amounts of each already in the pipeline. The result will be much higher taxes and inflation in the future, and lower economic growth. Higher inflation in coming years will further reduce the American standard of living as incomes and retirement funds are further eroded. The last time Democrats controlled both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue for a significant length of time was in the 1970s and stagflation was the result, so nobody should be surprised if history repeats itself.”

If the Joint Economic Committee is warning of dire consequences if the Democrats continue on their current course, then shouldn’t WE THE PEOPLE continue our outcry long past Tax Day. WE THE PEOPLE need to raise up a leader that we can all believe in. WE THE PEOPLE will deserve what we get if we just sit in our living rooms angry about what is transpiring, but refusing to get out of our comfort zone and remind our Representatives that

THEY WORK FOR US!
