If You Can’t Win, Make Fun of Them

Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals has been the left’s master playbook.  It’s not hard to see that these are the tactics that were used on Sarah Palin.  Her ability to rise above the fray every time makes the left nuts.  The blue lines were examples that came immediately to mind.  I’m sure if one were to dig deeper, there would be plenty of examples for the rest.

Rules for Radicals:

  1. Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.
  2. Never go outside the experience of your own people.
  3. Whenever possible, go outside the experience of the enemy.  (Make them speechless).
  4. Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. (The hypocrisy play)
  5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. (Humor is the ultimate weapon!)
  6. A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.
  7. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.
  8. Keep the pressure on, with different tactics and actions, and utilize all events of the period for your purpose. (Timing is everything).
  9. The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.
  10. A major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure on the opposition.
  11. If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counter side.
  12. The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.  (Put up or shut up).
  13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it (example, George Bush as the personification of evil).

None of the attacks on Sarah from the left have been anything but an attempt to neutralize what they see as a very real threat.  When they couldn’t ridicule her into submission, they turned to unprecedented attacks using her family and the ethics bill she championed as weapons against her.  Before Sarah, G.W. Bush had the same treatment going into his last election cycle in order to neutralize and demoralize the GOP.  The left portrayed President Bush as not only an enemy of the world, they attacked him on the home front as well.  It was effective too.  For the GOP, the election was lost before it ever began.

The list above was taken from a post appropriately titled “Know Thy Enemy”.  If the grassroots conservative movement wants to have the stamina to beat back the socialist tide, we have to truly know thy enemy.  Understanding what their tactics are will help us not to buy into their game.  Instead, we need to engage them in a debate of our choosing.  No more compromise to get along in the true spirit of bipartisanship.  They have fully demonstrated with their grotesque display of power in Washington, the liberals have no intention of engaging the right.  Our own concept of fair play has been used as a weapon against us.

Now is the time for We The People to stop listening to the talking heads on TV and use our own God-given brains to decide what is best for America.  It’s time to stop being paralyzed in our apathy and stand up for the Freedom that was bought with the precious blood of our Founding Fathers.  If there was ever a time to pay attention, its right now as we watch our Constitutional rights evaporate before our very eyes.

There is NO person or government that deserves the fruits of your own labor more than you do.  As a free people, we have a responsibility to take care of our own needs and not to look to the government to take care of us.  There was a time in this country when if you didn’t work, you wouldn’t eat.

Founded On The Rock


The left and the right have different approaches to the question of what is our responsibility to the poor.  Both sides agree that sometimes we need to help our neighbors. What we can’t agree on how is that should be accomplished.

The left would create an ever-expanding welfare state that will help the poor and redistribute the wealth.  The right believes that charity should come from the individual.  In both cases, wealth changes hands, the difference lies in the freedom of choice in making that sacrifice.  Sacrifice only has moral value when we alone are free to make that choice.  So, if government takes and gives to the poor, the choice to honor God with our substance is limited more and more as taxes turn into theft as the tax rate steadily increases.

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. -Proverbs 19:17 (ESV)

When charity becomes an entitlement, the government not only enslaves the taxpayer through the wealth redistribution schemes, but also the recipient as they join others on the governmental plantation.

It is no wonder that America is steadily losing ground on the world stage. The welfare state dependent mentality sucks all creativity out of the community as it’s grip tightens to maintain control of the sheep.  We The Sheeple have been led down the road toward a collectivist state, waiting to be told what to think and what to do so that we don’t disturb the security bought through compliance.

We The People are so much more than sheep. We built this nation on a foundation of rock, not of sand.

46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. [3] 49 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The ruin of the house that is America will indeed be great if We The People don’t heed the words of the Lord and of our Founders.  Our nation was built by men of great faith and principles. They honored God in their words and deeds.  They knew that it was only with the hand Divine Providence that would allow them to prevail against the odds.  We The People must turn again to Divine Providence for guidance to help us find our way back from the brink of self-destruction.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor. – The Declaration of Independence

It’s time to return to our foundation on the rock and trust that Divine Providence can rebuild our unity so that once again we are un-hyphenated Americans joining together to repair that crumbling foundation lest it disintegrate into sand…

Hey Dude, Where’s My Melting Pot?


E Pluribus Unum…out of many one.  These words were placed on the National Seal by our Founders with great wisdom.  Immigrants once brought their hopes and dreams to our shores to become Americans. We The People are made up of many richly diverse backgrounds, which at one time, added flavor to the great melting pot that was the American culture. Now, through hyphenation and multi-culturalism We The People are losing our American identity that made us one people and don’t know who we are any more.

If we are Asian-American, Mexican-American or African-American out of political correctness, when does an individual become simply American? When does their loyalty lie with America first by joining together, arm in arm, to face both our problems and the world in unity?  It’s heartbreaking to see a Mexican, or other Latin American Country’s flag here in Texas flying over a small business owned by someone who has chosen to live in this country and reap the benefits.

We The People, if we are to survive as a nation, must again be E Pluribus Unum.

The Death of American Exceptionalism


Why on earth would anyone be ashamed to be an American? Perhaps the world wide apology tour that President Obama had a little something to do with that. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that We The People’s memory of our Founders fades with every text book and documentary that tears them down into obscurity. Or could it be part of the socialization of America? Perhaps, it is all of the above.

F. A. Hayek, a member of the London School of Economics, wrote about similar concerns during World War II.

“How far in the last twenty years England has traveled on the German path is brought home to one with extraordinary vividness if one now reads of the more serious discussions of the differences between British and German views on political and moral issues which appeared in England during the last war.” F.A. Hayek, The Road to Serfdom

How is it that something that once seemed impossible due to the national character of that nation now seemed inevitable? Looking back from the perspective of decades, Hayek’s concerns were valid.  Today, the British face socialized healthcare and student riots due to tuition increases. In his writings, Hayek was concerned about the loss of the national identity.

“…but while the people of England were then proud of their distinctive tradition, there are few of the political views then regarded as characteristically English of which the majority of her people do not now seem half-ashamed, if they do not positively repudiate them.”  F.A. The American historical landscape has change significantly since Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson made their lasting mark on our nation.  America now is facing a crisis of identity for We The People and the world. Are we the America that won an impossible fight and freed ourselves from the British, invented the light bulb and created the best quality health care in the world? Or are We The People evil because America dared to prosper?

This shift in national pride happened in England when the British people began to embrace collectivist ideas. The same shift has occurred here in America as evidenced by the election of a President who doesn’t believe We The People individually have a right to succeed.  We The People can’t be trusted to care for our neighbors voluntarily, or determine for ourselves how exactly we’ll spread that wealth around.

How far We The People have strayed from the Founder’s intent:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” The Declaration of Independence

What is charity, when one has the right to choose, becomes theft when the government gets involved. Each of us has a right to pursue the American Dream. No one has the right to take the fruit of another man’s labor.

Does Character Really Matter? (updated)

As we look to the new year, we are facing the fruit of our national apathy as we watch Congress wheel and deal for their votes in support of a bill that America clearly does not want.  For decades, the national silence has been deafening while elected officials of BOTH parties showed their true character.  Bringing home the bacon to their district through ear-marks as the price for their support of a bill they would not otherwise agree to has become the normal M.O. in Washington.

In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide.  Regard not the particular sect [party] of the candidate – look to his character… It is alleged by men of loose principles or defective views of the subject that religion and morality are not necessary or important qualifications for political stations.  But the Scriptures teach a different doctrine.  They direct that rulers should be men “who rule in the fear of God, able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness.”

As the President and Congress are sworn into office, they take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies both foreign and domestic.  Why would our Founding Fathers choose to use that particular turn of phrase?  Why would a citizen be a threat to the Constitution?  Having just rid themselves of tyranny, they valued their hard won freedom and rightly knew that in the passage of time, our national memory would fade and a domestic tyrant could again threaten the liberty of the citizens of this country.

But you must remember, my fellow citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing.

While we are busy with the details of our own lives, we often neglect our duty to ourselves, our country and future generations by guarding jealously the inheritance our fore fathers left us.  We don’t want to get off the couch and get out of our comfort zones to send good people off to attend to the people’s business.  Andrew Jackson had much more to say:

You have no longer any cause to fear danger from abroad; your strength and power are well known throughout the civilized world, as well as the high and gallant bearing of your sons.  It is from within, among yourselves–from cupidity [excessive desire, especially for wealth; covetousness or avarice], from corruption, from disappointed ambition and inordinate thirst for power– that factions will be formed and liberty endangered.  It is against such designs, whatever disguise the actors may assume, that you have especially to guard yourselves.  You have the highest of  human trusts committed to your care.  Providence has showered on this favored land blessings without number, and has chosen  you as the guardians of freedom, to preserve it for the benefit of the human race.  May He who holds in His hands the destinies of nations make you worthy of the favors He has bestowed and and enable you, with pure hearts and pure hands and sleepless vigilance, to guard and defend to the end of time the great charge He has committed to your keeping.

As We The People have slept, a diligent minority have worked to “fundamentally transform” our nation.  The American Dream has morphed into a garish caricature reflecting our enslavement through apathy.  We The People sat silent and let our national leadership completely ignore the Constitution.  Its hard to say who is more wrong.  Those who swore to protect and defend the Constitution, or those who did nothing to hold them accountable.

We The People sat quietly, not wanting anyone to be offended, as a few have decided that we can no longer have God in our public life.  George Washington, in his farewell address in 1796 talked about religion and morality’s role in preserving freedom:

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.  In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness — these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens.  The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them.  A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity.  Let it simply be asked, “Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice?” And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion.

Sitting in the Oval Office we now have a President that sees the Constitution as a speed bump, “a charter of negative  liberties”, on the road to the new America he has envisioned.  This same man has claimed that we are no longer a Christian nation.

We The People are doomed if we won’t stand up for what is right and good.  Personal responsibility and honest self interest have served this nation well as we have grown and prospered.  While some grow extremely wealthy, many are lifted up because of their pursuit of the American Dream.  Jobs are created, the free market drives innovation and generous people give to support those who are less fortunate.  People of character work hard.  People of character don’t want hand outs, they want opportunities.  People of character will lend a hand.  People of character know right from wrong even if no one is looking.

America needs people of character to step in to the fray and run for office at every level of government.  School boards, city councils, state legislatures, judges and federal offices are all important positions.  Honest people that aren’t looking for what’s in it for them can help turn this country around.  If We The People stand up and support the good guys with our time and money we can vote the in-bred Washington elites out.

UPDATE (09/13/2010):

It’s nine months later and We The People have seen that the slogan HOPE and CHANGE didn’t exactly mean what they said it did. We The People have watched unpopular, oppressive legislation speed through Congress as though they would never have to face another election again with arrogance and impunity. America’s economy is in the worst shape imaginable since the trillion dollar stimulus was going to prevent exactly what we’re experiencing. This administration’s response to criticism is merely that it would have been much worse if they hadn’t done it. Hard to prove, huh?

Now We The People face the mid-term elections. If we don’t clean house in Washington, we’re jumping off the cliff into an America we don’t recognize.  If we don’t fundamentally transform Washington by electing honorable candidates, kiss America as we know it and the Constitution good bye. How should Lady Liberty’s eulogy read?

One Possible Future


UPDATE: In the year since this was posted, it doesn’t seem quite so radical. The Gulf oil spill is the latest crisis being used against the American people.  Every day, I fear that we are one step closer to what at one time was unthinkable…

Explore with me one possible future:

“Now for tonight’s headlines.”  The newscaster took a deep breath and sighed uncharacteristically before he continued.  “With the support of all unions, the president has declared the Constitution invalid.  Here’s the Rose Garden press conference…”

“In the interest of global unity, I have declared the Constitution of the United States null and void.  It is no longer practical to allow the citizens to believe they have any influence on the future course of this nation.  We have a greater good we must deal with,” the president paused for dramatic effect, “and I will share what this actually is as you need to know.  Trust me.  In the mean time, I will be the absolute final authority on the American economy and the American people.  All voting will be suspended until further notice.

Now that there is healthcare for all, we need to control the costs.  Everyone is going to have to be realistic in their expectations for their healthcare outcome.  So, there will be mandatory genetic screening, if you have a genetic pre-disposition towards cancer, heart disease or obesity, we will ask you to report immediately for counseling and treatment.  This way we can assure that no one who deserves excellent healthcare will be denied.  Funerals will, of course, be covered by the Single-Payer option.

As for our carbon output, it is time for all Americans to tighten their belts once again.  To discourage the irresponsible use of electricity, we will add an additional 50% surcharge to your bill to help you remember what you’re doing to the earth.  I know there are Internet rumors that claim that Global Warming isn’t based in fact, but we’re going to err on the side of caution and make sure that we win this fight.  Also, all southern states, I know it’s summer, but you can’t go expecting a/c every day, all day.  You’ll just have to go green or get hot.  And since we’re already taxing all American’s in every way we can think of, you probably can’t afford it.”

You are probably thinking, the extreme picture I’ve painted for you above just isn’t possible.  However, it is just one of the many possible futures for America from the cross roads we are standing in.  Before you discount it completely, just think about the fact that the House of Representatives passed CAP and TRADE even though there are studies by MIT and other well respected scientists that say all we are seeing is the normal global cycles of warming and cooling.  Since it is widely accepted that there were at least four major ice ages, it is only logical that there were periods of global warming in between.

Instead, consider what is the motivation for those who are behind the strong push for policy change.  Money and power are at the root of everything we’re seeing.  When the dust settles, we’ll see who made the best deals and won at the expense of the American people.  The winners may be political powers from other nations, union executives and the Washington toads that have sold us out for personal or political gain.  Worse than what I’ve already described, now consider this. Is it that great a stretch of the imagination to believe that there are those in power who would gladly sell America’s future out and have us take on not only a global currency, as they have already alluded to, but come under the authority of a One World Government?

We have an obligation to the Founding Fathers of this nation, to our children and to each other to not sit idly by and watch as our Constitutional rights are systematically dismantled.  Unless We The People stand up and object loudly to what is transpiring in Washington, we will loose the right to disagree, to speak out against, to keep and bear arms and to keep the fruit of our own labors.

An Open Letter To Government


Dear Elected Official,

I can’t stand the thought that somehow the burden of more debt is going to save our country.  STOP SPENDING MONEY.  STOP BAILING OUT.  JUST STOP.  In our personal economies, if we spend too much, eventually the bill comes due.  You either do without to avoid this, or eventually your house of cards will collapse ending in bankruptcy.  It is arrogant to think that we can avoid this.

On general spending.  Please stop.  I don’t want higher taxes.   I don’t want the government to provide everything for everyone.  I believe if a thing is worth having, it is worth working for.  What motivation will people have to rise above the circumstance if the entitlements render it unnecessary?  My children should not have to do without because the government, federal, state, and local wants to be everything to everyone.  This nation was not founded, nor the west settled by a bunch of whiny, nincompoops that can’t be bothered to make the effort to change their own destinies.

I believe we should only do official state business in English (a cost savings).  I have found that there is always someone who can translate if they haven’t bothered to learn English.  I believe it is time to roll up your sleeves and start cutting the size and scope of government.  If government is the only sector of the economy that is growing in employment, then we are in serious trouble.  If there is no REAL business creating wealth, then all the extra American dollars that you print are absolutely worthless.

I believe that we are a Christian nation and founded on Christian principles.  Stop trying to erase God.  I will honor  your right to believe something else, but this is a big part of American History and should not be swept under the carpet like we’re embarrassed.

I believe that each of you have a personal responsibility to  lead the nation in reducing the burden of government on the citizens.  Please keep America a great place to live.  If you don’t change your ways, we will all collapse under the burden of debt and become a 3rd world nation instead.  We’ll be looking for handouts instead of being the one helping.

Also, since when did America suddenly turn it’s back on Israel?  They are not the aggressors.  If America owes anyone an apology, its to Israel for forgetting what the Jewish people suffered that led up to Israel becoming an independent nation.  Israel should NOT be divided, erased or changed except as THEY see fit.  We are not going to have peace in the middle east no matter what you do.  We have lost our sense of direction if we can’t stand up for what is good and right in this world.
